DALLAS, Texas — The South Dallas community is seeking answers following a tragic discovery where three individuals died and a fourth was critically injured inside a residential property on Monday, August 31, 2026.
Emergency responders were dispatched around 1:12 p.m. to a single-family home in the 2700 block of Berger Avenue (also reported as Burger Avenue) after neighbors reported unresponsive individuals inside. Upon entry, Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel located four unconscious adults. First responders declared three individuals deceased at the scene: 31-year-old Martin Rodela Jr., 26-year-old Carlos Alonso Celorio, and 38-year-old Katoya Deshae Ferrell. Paramedics administered emergency stabilization to a fourth occupant, an adult female, before transporting her to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Official Status and Death Investigation
The Dallas Police Department Homicide and Special Investigations units, alongside forensic examiners, have opened an ongoing death investigation to establish the cause of the casualties.
Preliminary scene evaluations revealed no obvious signs of physical trauma or forced entry. Authorities and the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office have not classified the case as a homicide pending formal toxicology, environmental, and autopsy reports. While local community members reported unusual activity and social gatherings at the residence earlier in the day, law enforcement officials caution against unconfirmed speculation regarding toxic or substance exposure until formal laboratory analyses are finalized. Details concerning public visitation hours and formal memorial services will be released by the respective families once finalized.
Community Reaction and Family Support
News of the unresolved incident on Berger Avenue has caused deep concern across the South Dallas neighborhood and neighboring communities.
Neighbors, friends, and family members gathered to express grief and offer mutual support while awaiting official answers from investigative authorities. Heartfelt condolences, prayers, and ongoing community support continue to be extended to the families of Martin Rodela Jr., Carlos Alonso Celorio, Katoya Deshae Ferrell, and the surviving victim during this painful period of grief.
