Marshall County Community Mourns Tragic Loss of Monica and David Will Following Violent Home Intrusion

MOUNDSVILLE, West Virginia — The Marshall County community is in mourning following a violent home intrusion that claimed the lives of Monica L. Will, 46, and her husband, David D. Will, 44.

According to official releases from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office and Sheriff Mike Dougherty, 911 dispatchers received an open-line emergency call from a residence on Middle Grave Creek Road at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Arriving deputies were ambushed outside the residence by 25-year-old Cyle B. Fabrizio, who fired a handgun at responding officers. Fabrizio then produced a 16-year-old girl held at gunpoint in the doorway. A sheriff's deputy deployed a service rifle and fired a single defensive shot, neutralizing the suspect on the front porch. Emergency responders secured the home, safely evacuating the 16-year-old daughter and her 14-year-old brother. Inside, deputies located Monica and David Will, both of whom had suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

Official Status and Multi-Agency Investigation

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia State Police are conducting a coordinated investigation into the double homicide and officer-involved shooting.

Investigative findings indicate that Fabrizio arrived at the property following an ongoing dispute after the couple prohibited him from dating their teenage daughter. Detectives established that Fabrizio fired through a front window, fatally striking Monica Will, before kicking in the front door and shooting David Will. The two surviving teenagers were uninjured physically and have been placed in the care of extended family members. Grief counseling services and trauma teams were deployed across Marshall County Schools, particularly at John Marshall High School where Monica Will served as a beloved faculty member and club advisor. Details regarding formal public visitation and joint memorial services will be announced once finalized by the Will family.

Community Tributes and School District Support

News of the tragic deaths of Monica and David Will has generated a profound outpouring of grief across Moundsville, Glen Dale, and the broader Marshall County region.

Students, faculty, neighbors, and local residents gathered to honor Monica's dedication as an educator and David's devotion as a father and community member. Deepest condolences, prayers, and ongoing community support continue to be extended to the Will children, relatives, and students affected by this devastating loss.
