Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in New Delhi, India, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.
Shettima is leading a high-level Nigerian delegation to the summit, which is focused on strengthening cooperation among BRICS member and partner countries.
The key summit schedule shows the event will open with a closed-door session on “Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism” for core members.
Leaders will tour the Bharat Innovates Exhibition, participate in a joint tree-planting ceremony, and attend a gala dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will also hold several bilateral meetings throughout the day.
Nigeria’s participation is expected to further the Federal Government’s efforts to deepen bilateral relations, expand trade and investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation with countries within the bloc.
The summit is being held under the theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
Members of the Nigerian delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani; and Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal.
Other senior government officials are also accompanying the Vice President to the summit.
