Emir, NECO registrar seek support for traditional institutions

The Emir of Minna, Niger State, Alhaji Farouq Bahago, has urged corporate organisations to support traditional institutions, saying they play an important role in maintaining peace, stability and development in communities.

Bahago made the call at the commissioning of the Palace of Mai-Anguwan Gidan Mangoro, constructed by the National Examinations Council, NECO, and the turbanning of the Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, as the Maji Dadin Gidan Mangoro.

The Emir, represented by Salisu Garba, said the peaceful coexistence between NECO and its host communities over the years was a testament to the goodwill between the council and the people.

He said the palace “symbolizes unity, cultural heritage, and the enduring role of traditional institutions in strengthening social cohesion”.

According to him, the project also affirmed that “tradition matters, and development must respect cultural foundations”.

Speaking at the event, Wushishi said the commissioning reflected NECO’s belief that corporate responsibility should extend beyond its core mandate of examinations, certification and educational quality assurance.

He said, “As a Council, we understand that strong education systems thrive when communities are stable, peaceful, and well coordinated.

“Therefore, through our CSR activities, we contribute meaningfully to the welfare of our host communities, support traditional values and leadership, and encourage development.”

Wushishi further stated that Gidan Mangoro community had demonstrated peace and maturity over the years, resulting in a productive relationship that had enabled NECO to operate effectively without unnecessary disruption.

The council also donated two transformers and motorised boreholes to Gidan Mangoro and Gbaganako communities.
