Beyond retail, Ukrop co-founded First Market Bank (now part of Atlantic Union Bank) and led New Richmond Ventures (NRV), investing heavily in regional startups, downtown revitalization, and local entrepreneurs like Michel Zajur’s La Siesta brand. His civic leadership earned him and his brother the title of Style Weekly’s "Richmonders of the Year" in 1994.
