INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — The Indianapolis community is mourning the loss of 24-year-old Ismael Velasco Juarez, who died Thursday morning, October 1, 2026, following a single-vehicle rollover crash along northbound Interstate 65 in Clinton County.
According to initial reports from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post, emergency personnel were dispatched shortly before 6:30 a.m. to the 157-mile marker of northbound I-65. Preliminary investigative findings indicate that Juarez was a passenger inside a 2012 Chevrolet Express van towing a loaded trailer northbound. When the trailer detached from the hitch assembly, the van lost stability, veered off the right shoulder, entered a roadside ditch, and rolled onto its side. Juarez was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover sequence and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clinton County Coroner’s Office. The van's driver, 27-year-old Alfredo Hernandez Manuel of Indianapolis, alongside three other passengers inside the vehicle, escaped without unhandled injuries.
Official Status and ISP Reconstruction Investigation
The Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team and local public safety agencies are conducting a full investigation into the crash mechanics.
Troopers and accident reconstructionists secured the interstate scene for several hours to process tire friction marks, examine hitch attachment hardware, and reconstruct the vehicle's trajectory. The Clinton County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Juarez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Authorities noted that mechanical equipment failure remains a central focus of the ongoing review. Information concerning official funeral services, family visitation hours, or memorial support funds will be released once finalized by his surviving family.

News of Ismael Velasco Juarez’s sudden death has brought deep sorrow to his family, friends, and coworkers across the greater Indianapolis area.
