Marco Antonio Lopez Garcia Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 50 Near Gunnison

GUNNISON, Colorado — A 37-year-old Montrose resident, Marco Antonio Lopez Garcia, was killed in a three-vehicle collision on U.S. Highway 50 near Gunnison on Sunday evening, September 27, 2026.

According to preliminary reports from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), Garcia was driving a 2008 Ford Escape westbound on Highway 50 when his vehicle crossed the centerline into the eastbound lanes. The Escape sideswiped an eastbound 2026 Ford F-350 pulling a trailer, causing Garcia's vehicle to rotate violently before coming to rest in the westbound lane. Flying debris from the primary impact struck a 44-year-old motorcyclist traveling nearby. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, where the Gunnison County Coroner’s Office formally pronounced Garcia deceased. Emergency medical personnel treated the injured motorcyclist before transporting him to a regional hospital with minor injuries. The driver and passenger of the Ford F-350 reported no injuries.
