Emergency Response and Initial Attack

Fire units under the direction of Battalion Chief Garrett Northern were dispatched to the scene following emergency calls from alert neighbors who heard audible smoke detectors and observed heavy smoke emanating from the house.

Upon arrival, fire crews initiated an aggressive primary attack. Firefighters forced entry through the front entrance and encountered heavy, dense black smoke concentrating in the kitchen section of the residence.

Search, Pet Rescue, and Damage Assessment
Search teams systematically cleared the home and confirmed that no residents were inside during the blaze. Firefighters discovered the family’s dog unharmed in the backyard and moved the animal to a safe holding area.

The primary fire was quickly knocked down and prevented from spreading into structural framing or neighboring properties. According to fire officials, the kitchen sustained major direct fire damage, while the remainder of the home suffered moderate to heavy smoke and soot contamination, rendering the structure temporarily uninhabitable.

Red Cross Assistance and Investigation
No injuries to civilians or emergency personnel were reported. The American Red Cross was requested to the scene to assist the two displaced residents with temporary lodging, essential supplies, and recovery services.

The precise origin and cause of the kitchen fire remain under investigation by San Rafael Fire Department investigators.
