A Life Dedicated to First Response and Public Safety

Serving under Badge No. 88 as Section Warden for Section C4, Jones held primary responsibility for wildfire prevention, suppression, and emergency management across portions of South Jersey.

Throughout his career, Jones expanded his service beyond wildland firefighting. He served as an active member of the Cecil Volunteer Fire Company, worked as an emergency dispatcher for the Monroe Township Police Department when the township operated its own local dispatch center, and supported neighboring volunteer fire companies across the region.

Colleagues often recalled his famous perspective on emergency service:

"It's a lifestyle, not a career," Jones once said in an interview with the Forest Fire Service. "A career, I would say, is something that you do from 9 to 5, but this job could be 24 hours a day. I plan my activities at home around it. It's a lifestyle."

Decorated Heroism in the Line of Duty
In 2021, Jones was awarded the New Jersey Forest Fire Service Heroism Award following a life-saving rescue.

While driving home with his dog following a veterinary appointment, Jones noticed smoke and flames pouring from a residential structure. Without hesitation or protective gear, he pulled into the driveway, ran toward the burning residence, and discovered a female resident trapped beneath a collapsed exterior wall. Working alongside neighbors who rushed to assist, Jones lifted the heavy structural wall to pull the woman to safety.

Only after ensuring the victim was safely in the care of arriving medical personnel did Jones return home to extinguish his own smoldering clothing before returning to the scene to assist fire crews.

Regional Outpouring and Funeral Services
Following the news of his passing, fire departments and law enforcement agencies across New Jersey—including the Billingsport Volunteer Fire Association, Collings Lakes Fire Department, Monroe Township Police Department, and South Vineland Fire Company—issued formal statements honoring his legacy and service.
