Rescue Mourns Passing of Engineer Kelly Brinkerhoff Following Highway 50 Crash

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — The Las Vegas Fire & Rescue department and the Southern Nevada community are mourning the death of 48-year-old Fire Engineer Kelly Arthur Brinkerhoff, who died in an off-duty vehicle collision in Lander County, Nevada. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:39 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, along U.S. Highway 50 near mile marker 28, east of Austin. According to initial investigation reports from Nevada State Police, Brinkerhoff was operating a commercial truck cab without a trailer when the vehicle veered across lanes, left the roadway, struck a highway sign, and overturned in a dirt area. Emergency responders pronounced Brinkerhoff deceased at the scene. Brinkerhoff was a 24-year veteran of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, having joined the department in 2002. During his decorated career, he served most recently at Fire Station 6 after serving for many years on C Platoon at Fire Station 1.
