Peyton Williams Dies Following Hit-and-Run E-Bike Crash in Miami-Dade; Driver Arrested

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida — A 10-year-old girl, Peyton Williams, has tragically passed away from non-survivable injuries sustained in a hit-and-run collision while riding an e-bike with her 15-year-old brother, Wilbrent Bain, in Miami-Dade County.

The collision occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, near the intersection of Northwest Seventh Avenue and Northwest 117th Street. According to Miami-Dade Police Department reports, Peyton and her brother were riding an e-bike when a vehicle struck them. The driver failed to stop or render aid, fleeing the scene immediately following the impact. Emergency medical personnel dispatched to the scene provided immediate trauma care before transporting both siblings to a local pediatric trauma center. Peyton succumbed to her injuries the following day, September 10, while Bain suffered severe injuries and continues his recovery under medical care.

Official Status and Criminal Investigation

The Miami-Dade Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit launched an intensive search that culminated in the arrest of a suspect more than two weeks after the fatal incident.

Investigating detectives obtained surveillance footage capturing a driver stopping a short distance from the crash site to inspect passenger-side damage on a silver 2012 Nissan Versa before driving away. Detectives allege the driver, identified as 33-year-old Arick Metayer, took the damaged vehicle to a salvage yard the day after the collision. Following investigative leads, police established that Metayer discussed the crash with an acquaintance and subsequently retained counsel. On Monday, September 28, Metayer surrendered to law enforcement officers. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on formal charges including leaving the scene of a crash involving death, leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, and tampering with physical evidence. Funeral and memorial service arrangements will be announced once finalized by her family.
