NEWARK, Del. — The Newark community and online supporters worldwide are mourning the death of 12-year-old Annie Catherine Lane, who passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome in 2014, Lane underwent three open-heart surgeries by age three. At age 11, she received a heart transplant, which later led to additional medical complications, including cancer. Emergency medical staff and specialized care teams treated her through her final hospitalization.
