At approximately 1:25 p.m., La Porte County Sheriff’s Office deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to dispatch reports of a head-on crash on State Road 2, just east of County Road 900 West. First responders located a red 2017 Ford, driven eastbound by Roche, and a red 2010 Kia, driven westbound by 60-year-old Ronald O. Nuest of Medaryville. Emergency personnel extracted the occupants and provided life-support care at the scene. Roche sustained critical injuries and was rushed via ambulance to a regional hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Kia's driver, Ronald O. Nuest, and his 88-year-old passenger, Elvin L. Nuest of Francesville, both suffered injuries and were transported to regional hospitals for medical treatment.

Deputies with the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office have launched a formal crash investigation into the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
According to witness statements provided to investigating deputies on scene, the westbound Kia was traveling behind a FedEx delivery vehicle when it suddenly crossed left of the center line into eastbound traffic, colliding directly with Roche's Ford. Crash reconstruction specialists and deputies continue to process physical evidence from the roadway. Sheriff's office authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing, with no further administrative details available for public release at this time.
