Naseem “Poohman” Thomas, a 26-year-old man from Chicago, Illinois, has died following a fatal shooting on the city’s South Side on Friday evening, September 25, 2026.
According to information attributed to the Chicago Police Department, the shooting occurred at approximately 7 p.m. near a Citgo gas station in the area of 76th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue.
Police said two individuals travelling in a black sedan approached Thomas and opened fire. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation.
After sustaining gunshot wounds, Thomas reportedly entered a black Dodge Challenger and attempted to leave the area. He drove several blocks before the vehicle crashed into a utility pole near 74th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue.
Responding officers found Thomas inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was 26 years old.
The incident has prompted an investigation by Area 2 detectives, who are working to establish what happened and identify those responsible. According to the latest information provided, the two individuals believed to have been involved fled after the crash and had not been taken into custody.
Investigators also reported that Thomas might have attended the funeral of rapper Bloodhound Q50 earlier that day. A funeral sticker was reportedly visible on his vehicle’s windshield.
However, authorities have not confirmed whether Thomas’s reported attendance at the funeral was connected to the shooting. Any suggested link between the funeral and the attack remains unverified, and investigators have not publicly established a motive.
Thomas was known to those close to him by the nickname “Poohman.” His reported death at 26 has left family members, friends and acquaintances mourning a life lost suddenly to gun violence.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police are seeking information from anyone who witnessed the shooting, saw the vehicles involved or has information that could help identify the suspects.
