Gabe Reilly, a 27-year-old firefighter with the Salt Lake City Fire Department, died on Sunday, September 27, 2026, following a wingsuit BASE-jumping accident in Cache County, Utah.


According to the Cache County Sheriff's Office, Reilly was participating in a group jump with approximately eight to ten people near Leetham's Hollow, east of Millville Canyon. The experienced BASE jumper leapt from a cliff approximately 700 feet high at around 9:10 a.m.

Authorities reported that Reilly's wingsuit failed to generate sufficient lift during the jump. Search and Rescue personnel responded to the scene, where he was pronounced dead. A Life Flight helicopter was also called to assist.

Reilly had served with the Salt Lake City Fire Department for four years. He followed in the footsteps of his father, who retired from the same department in 2024.

Following confirmation of his death, the fire department paid tribute to Reilly, remembering his infectious smile, kind heart, and free-spirited personality. The department also recognized his dedication to fellow firefighters and the wider community.
