Dennis Haskins Obituary: ‘Saved by the Bell’ Star Who Played Principal Belding Dies at 75

Dennis Haskins, the beloved actor who portrayed Principal Richard Belding in the television sitcom “Saved by the Bell,” has died at 75, leaving fans remembering his contribution to one of the most recognizable teen comedy franchises.

His representative, Jay Schachter, confirmed the news and paid tribute to the actor’s character and connection with his fans. Schachter described Haskins as a wonderful person who always made time for the people who supported him throughout his career.

Born on November 18, 1950, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Haskins began playing Richard Belding on Disney Channel’s “Good Morning, Miss Bliss.” The series was later reworked into NBC’s “Saved by the Bell,” where his character became Principal Belding of Bayside High School.

Haskins continued portraying the strict but caring principal throughout the original series and its spin-off, “Saved by the Bell: The New Class.” His memorable performances and signature catchphrase, “Hey, hey, hey!” helped establish Mr. Belding as a familiar television character for generations of viewers.

Beyond the franchise, Haskins appeared in several other television productions, including “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “The West Wing,” “7th Heaven,” “Mad Men,” “New Girl,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

He is survived by his son, Dustin.
