The Second Street Fire near Benton City, Washington, continued to spread as emergency crews responded to the growing wildfire in Benton County. By late September 25, 2026, the fire had expanded to approximately 1,149 acres, prompting authorities to issue Level 3 evacuation orders for several nearby communities.

The wildfire was reported near the 11,000 block of NE 2nd Street, close to Benton City. It has been burning through grass, brush, and forested areas, threatening nearby homes, infrastructure, and sections of Interstate 82.
Level 3 Evacuations Issued
Authorities issued Level 3 evacuation orders, meaning residents in affected areas must leave immediately. The evacuation zone includes a subdivision accessed through North Valley Drive Way and Pear Drive, along with Apple Drive, Cherry Drive, Berry Drive, Plum Drive, and Kiona Village Community Mobile Home Park.
Residents in affected areas should follow instructions from emergency officials, leave promptly, and avoid returning until authorities confirm it is safe.
Shelter and Road Closures
A temporary evacuation shelter was reported at Ki-Be High School, located at 1205 Horne Drive in Benton City. Residents should check the latest official emergency updates to confirm shelter availability and any changes to evacuation arrangements.
Several roads were also reported closed because of the fire and related emergency operations. These included westbound Interstate 82 at the I-182 junction, eastbound I-82 near milepost 94, State Route 224 between Keene and Kennedy roads, Kennedy Road between SR 224 and Bombing Range Road, and Keene Road between Van Giesen and Belmont.
Motorists were advised to avoid affected routes and follow directions from law enforcement and emergency personnel.
Firefighting Operations Continue
The Washington State Fire Marshal’s Office authorized state fire mobilization to support firefighting efforts. Additional resources were being coordinated to help crews contain the blaze and protect threatened communities.
