Brother Charged With Murder After GBI Identifies Remains of Missing Dougherty County Teenager

ALBANY, Georgia — A monthslong missing person investigation in Southwest Georgia ended in tragedy after forensic experts identified human remains found in a wooded area as 18-year-old Samuel Jackson. As reported by WALB 10 News, Dougherty County Police Department officers subsequently arrested the victim's older brother, 23-year-old Jamal Jackson, charging him with murder, concealing the death of another, and illegal disposal of a human body.

Disappearance and Discovery of Human Remains Samuel Jackson was initially reported missing after leaving his family residence on Friday, June 26, 2026. Investigators established that he was last seen at approximately 8:30 p.m. near a home on Shady Glen Lane in unincorporated Dougherty County. The disappearance prompted extensive grid searches by local law enforcement officers, search teams, and community volunteers across the Albany area. During search operations in early July, detectives located undisclosed human remains in a densely wooded area where the teenager was known to frequent.

Forensic Identification and Criminal Charges The recovered remains were transferred to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Crime Lab and the Dougherty County Coroner’s Office for formal scientific verification. Following DNA matching and forensic testing, officials formally confirmed the identity as Samuel Jackson on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Dougherty County police detectives subsequently took Jamal Jackson into custody and booked him into the Dougherty County Jail without bond. Law enforcement officials have not yet disclosed a motive or specific cause of death as the state bureau and county prosecutors continue their joint investigation.
