Transfer: Scholes names EPL star better than Maguire, De Ligt Man United should sign

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes, has told the club to pursue a transfer for Argentina and Tottenham Hotspur centre-back, Cristian Romero this summer.

Romero, who celebrated his 28th birthday earlier in April, is believed to be keen on departing from Tottenham, even though his current contract runs until June 2029.

In recent weeks, he has reportedly garnered interest from Tottenham’s rivals, Arsenal, Serie A champions Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.

During an appearance on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes emphasized that Michael Carrick’s team should aim to bring the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner to Old Trafford.

He stated (h/t Metro), “I think they addressed the forward positions last summer, but they likely need two centre-backs. You may find this amusing, and I might face criticism for this, but I would pursue Cristian Romero from Tottenham.

“I recognize he has a fiery temperament and disciplinary challenges, yet he possesses the potential to be an excellent centre-back, someone Michael Carrick could effectively manage.”

Claiming that the 2026 FIFA World Cup finalist surpasses players like Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt, the former deep-lying playmaker said, “They are discussing a fee of 30 or 40 million pounds for a player who has played as a centre-back in a World Cup final.

“I acknowledge his disciplinary issues, but I would still acquire him. I believe they are in dire need of a centre-back… the current players are not up to standard.”

Cristiano Ronaldo was involved with a Paraguayan businesswoman prior to his relationship with Georgina Rodriguez.

Since joining Spurs in 2021, Romero has scored 13 goals in 156 appearances across all competitions.

The Manchester United target has accumulated 44 yellow cards and has been sent off six times during his tenure at Spurs.
