Tracka raises concern over poor condition of Majaga Primary Health Centre in Nasarawa

The public expenditure monitoring organisation, Tracka, has called attention to the deteriorating condition of the Majaga Primary Health Care Centre in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

It warned that the situation could endanger thousands of residents who relied on the facility for basic medical services.

Tracka raised the concern after a monitoring visit to the health centre, which it identified as the only government-owned healthcare facility serving the Majaga community.

The organisation stated that the facility was operating without several essential amenities, including potable water, a pharmacy, laboratory services and an injection room.

It further reported that the labour and consulting rooms were in poor condition, while the centre had insufficient beds and lacked wards and accommodation for healthcare workers.

According to them, the condition of the facility could have serious consequences for residents, particularly pregnant women and other patients requiring urgent medical attention.

The organisation urged the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the Nasarawa State Government, led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, to urgently intervene by rehabilitating, equipping and improving the facility.

Tracka also stressed that access to functional primary healthcare is essential, particularly in rural communities where residents often have limited alternatives when government health centres are unable to provide basic services.

Residents of Majaga and neighbouring communities have reportedly raised concerns over the condition of the facility for some time, and calling for stronger government investment in rural healthcare infrastructure.
