PROCESSION HONORS ENID POLICE OFFICER KILLED IN GARFIELD COUNTY CRASH

OKLAHOMA CITY — Law enforcement agencies across Oklahoma gathered Wednesday morning, August 26, 2026, for a highway procession honoring Officer Lee Frisendahl, a 19-year veteran of the Enid Police Department who was tragically killed in an off-duty crash earlier this week.

The procession escorted Officer Frisendahl’s body from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Oklahoma City back to his home community in Enid.

Crash Details & Highway Patrol Findings

According to an official collision report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), the crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. at a rural county road intersection in Garfield County:

Collision Sequence: A 1993 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling southbound through the intersection was struck on the passenger side by a 2017 GMC Sierra.

Victim Identified: Officer Lee Frisendahl, 54, was riding as a passenger in the Pontiac Grand Prix and sustained fatal injuries in the impact.

A Legacy of Night-Shift Mentorship

Officer Frisendahl served with the Enid Police Department for nearly two decades, spending the vast majority of his 19-year career working the night shift, where he became a cornerstone mentor for incoming junior officers.

Enid Police Department spokesperson Cass Rains expressed the deep grief felt across the force following the loss:

"Lee was one of those guys — never heard a bad word about him. Very friendly, very outgoing... A lot of us are still in shock."

State troopers and local crash reconstruction teams continue to investigate the exact factors that contributed to the intersection collision.
