Okpebholo sacks Omonzane as SUBEB chairman, appoints Oyakhilome

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has sacked Mrs Sonia Ebanehita Omonzane as the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, and replaced her with Hon Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome.

DAILY POST reports the sack of Mrs Omonzane as SUBEB chairman made it four persons that the governor had fired as the executive  chairman of the board.

DAILY POST recalls that in May 2025, the Governor removed Barrister Onomen Goodness Briggs as the chairman of the board and deployed her to Board for Technical and Vocational Education (BTVE), while Omonzane Ebanehita Sonia  was moved from BTVE to SUBEB.

The Governor had earlier removed Dr Paddy Iyamu as the chairman of SUBEB and appointed him as Commissioner for Education.

A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Umar Musa Ikhilor made available to newsmen on Tuesday, said the governor had approved the  appointment of  Hon. Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome as the  Executive Chairman of the SUBEB.

Ayewoh was until the appointment the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA).

The Governor described Ayewoh as a dedicated politician and public administrator with a strong passion for effective leadership.

“He is committed to promoting policies and initiatives that will enhance the quality of education and improve learning outcomes across the State.

“Until his nomination, Hon. Ayewoh served as the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA), where he contributed to the administration and implementation of government programmes aimed at improving rural connectivity and infrastructure”, he said.

Ikhilor, said his name would be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation.
