De Simoni, born in Sydney to Italian parents, embarked on the transcontinental "Quad Squad Expedition" alongside close friends Jamie Kenyon and Kristopher "Ted" Davant. Departing from Istanbul, the trio rode quad bikes across Europe and Africa in a bid to set a world record for the longest quad bike journey while raising funds and awareness for Oxfam Australia. Equipped with eco-friendly solar setups, the group traveled through 36 countries. The expedition was tragically interrupted in Malawi, where De Simoni was killed in a road collision.
Official Status and Fulfilling the Record
Following the fatal accident, Malawian law enforcement and transport authorities completed traffic reviews while De Simoni's family arranged his return to Australia.
To honor their friend's vision, Kenyon and Davant subsequently resumed and completed the record-breaking journey on De Simoni's behalf, achieving the world record and raising significant humanitarian aid for international development programs.
Enduring Legacy and Humanitarian Foundation
In the years following his passing, De Simoni's family and friends established the Valerio Daniel De Simoni Association. The organization actively supports community initiatives, including programs for refugees and First Nations youth in Australia.
De Simoni’s personal travel diaries were posthumously published, offering readers insight into his philosophical views on environmental sustainability, social justice, and global unity. His story and the expedition's impact have also been memorialized through literary releases and documentary films celebrating his life.
