Flagler County Authorities Investigate Tragic Domestic Shooting in Palm Coast

PALM COAST, Florida — The Palm Coast community is grieving following a fatal domestic violence incident that claimed the life of 47-year-old Dawn Estrella on the night of Wednesday, September 30, 2026.


According to official releases from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO), dispatchers received multiple emergency 911 calls reporting gunfire at a residence on Weyanoke Lane at approximately 10:18 p.m. Arriving deputies breached the residence and located Estrella inside a bedroom suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders and Flagler County Fire Rescue personnel initiated emergency lifesaving measures, but Estrella succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. During a tactical sweep of the property, deputies discovered her husband, 55-year-old Rakim-Shakur Brooks, deceased inside the garage from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two other occupants present inside the home at the time of the shooting escaped without physical injury.

Official Status and Police Investigation
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Major Case Unit is actively investigating the incident as an apparent domestic-violence murder-suicide.

Detectives established that Estrella and Brooks had been in a relationship for approximately nine years and were married in March 2024, but were actively in the process of separating. Witness statements provided to investigators indicated that a verbal altercation escalated immediately before multiple gunshots were discharged. Sheriff Rick Staly described the incident as a tragic domestic homicide and reiterated community resources available for victims of domestic abuse. Announcements regarding formal visitation, funeral services, or family support funds will be released by Estrella's surviving relatives once finalized.
