\MODESTO, Calif. — Authorities with the Modesto Police Department are conducting an active investigation into a fatal pedestrian collision that claimed the life of 35-year-old Modesto resident Jacob Moore. The incident occurred near the intersection of I Street and 14th Street. According to preliminary investigative findings released by law enforcement, Moore was seen walking westbound on I Street as he approached 14th Street.

Driver Arrested Following Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision in Modesto

\MODESTO, Calif. — Authorities with the Modesto Police Department are conducting an active investigation into a fatal pedestrian collision that claimed the life of 35-year-old Modesto resident Jacob Moore. The incident occurred near the intersection of I Street and 14th Street. According to preliminary investigative findings released by law enforcement, Moore was seen walking westbound on I Street as he approached 14th Street.

Officers reported that for reasons still under review, Moore subsequently entered the roadway, lay down in the street, and pulled a blanket over himself. Shortly thereafter, a westbound vehicle struck him, inflicting fatal injuries. The driver involved fled the scene immediately following the impact without stopping to render aid. Police Tracking and Suspect ArrestInvestigators utilized municipal surveillance footage and Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology monitored through the Modesto Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center to trace the suspect vehicle.

Vehicle Location: Police units identified the fleeing vehicle and moved to intercept it.Apprehension: Officers successfully deployed a tire-deflation device to safely disable the vehicle, bringing it to a complete stop.Charges: The driver was taken into custody without incident on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death or injury.
