Midvale Mine Road Collision Details
According to preliminary investigation summaries released by the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), crash reconstruction troopers responded around 7:39 p.m. to County Road 67 (Midvale Mine Road) near Canary Road. Investigators determined that Mr. Cottrell was operating a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling southwest when the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway, striking a post and a tree.
Emergency medical personnel from Smith Ambulance, Sherrodsville Fire Department, and the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. Mr. Cottrell sustained fatal injuries in the impact and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.
Investigative Factors and Scene Response
Troopers noted in preliminary reports that Mr. Cottrell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and that alcohol is suspected to have been a contributing factor. Assisting agencies at the crash site included Chad’s Towing for vehicle clearance and scene restoration.
