Chicago Police Investigate Double Homicide of Angela Johnson and DeAngelo Johnson in Austin Neighborhood

CHICAGO, Illinois — A shooting inside a residence in Chicago’s West Side Austin neighborhood resulted in the deaths of 47-year-old Angela Johnson and her 27-year-old son, DeAngelo Johnson. Chicago Police Department (CPD) officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the 800 block of North Parkside Avenue at approximately 10:43 p.m. following emergency 911 calls reporting gunfire originating from the basement of the home.

Upon entering the residence, responding officers located Angela Johnson in the basement suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, while DeAngelo Johnson was found on the first floor with multiple gunshot wounds, including to his back. Paramedics initiated life-saving measures and performed CPR on site before transporting both victims to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.

Official Investigation and Person of Interest Detained

Detectives with the Area Four Homicide Division have initiated a formal double homicide investigation into the incident, which police describe as domestic-related. Crime scene investigators recovered two firearms inside the residence along with multiple shell casings. Forensic technicians cataloged approximately 23 shell casings inside a basement bedroom, with additional casings recovered near the basement stairway and main living area.

Police confirmed that Angela Johnson’s boyfriend was identified as the suspect and was taken into custody near the scene at approximately 11:26 p.m. Witnesses were available to conduct a show-up identification, and the suspect remains in custody as state prosecutors evaluate formal criminal charges.
