ATHENS, Ohio — The Athens County community is mourning the peaceful passing of Sharon K. Sayre, 79, who passed away at her residence on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.


Born on June 16, 1947, in Athens County, Sayre was the daughter of the late Donald and Lovella “Sue” Koon Cook. A high academic achiever from an early age, she graduated as salutatorian of the Buchtel-York High School Class of 1965. Sayre went on to dedicate 42 years of faithful service to McBee’s before her retirement. Outside of her professional career, she was an avid seamstress and craftsperson who cherished shopping trips with her mother and aunts, and above all, valued time spent with her grandson.

Official Status and Funeral Services
Morrison Funeral Chapel in Glouster-Bishopville has been entrusted with the official arrangements for the Sayre family.

Public visitation will be hosted at Morrison Funeral Chapel on Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Formal funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Morrison Funeral Chapel, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery in Glouster. Sayre was preceded in passing by her husband, Larry Sayre; her brother, Ronnie Cook; and several beloved aunts. She is survived by her two sons, Michael (Kristin) Sayre of Athens and Steven Sayre of Jacksonville, along with her grandson, Seth Sayre of Amanda, Ohio.
