Authorities were called to the 1100 block of North Sherman Avenue at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, following reports of a shooting. Thomas was found at the scene and taken to a Madison hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the deceased as Skyler Thomas, 36, of Racine. A forensic autopsy was completed on September 21. Officials said the cause and manner of death remained pending while additional testing was conducted.
The shooting occurred near Northgate Shopping Center on Madison’s North Side. According to local reports, investigators had not announced an arrest as of September 23, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained under investigation.
