Historic Cadiz Restaurant Evacuated After Monday Night Fire

CADIZ, Ky. — A fire broke out Monday night at The Cadiz Restaurant, the oldest operating eatery in Trigg County, forcing an emergency evacuation of all staff and patrons.

First responders with the Cadiz Fire Department were dispatched to the three-story building shortly after 8:00 p.m. Reports indicate the blaze originated in the wall directly behind the kitchen grill in the coffee shop section of the establishment.

A grill cook attempted to extinguish the flames before firefighters arrived but was unsuccessful. Emergency medical personnel treated the employee at the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries were reported.

All patrons—including a group gathered in a back meeting room—along with restaurant staff were safely evacuated from the building without incident.

Fire crews climbed onto the roof of the structure to access and knock down flames that had spread to the top floor. While damage to the upper level was reported as extensive, firefighters made quick work of the blaze, preventing major structural destruction to the main dining room below.

According to staff, the upper floor originally contained residential apartments but had been converted into storage for the restaurant.

The Cadiz Restaurant has served the local community for more than six decades. The establishment is expected to remain closed temporarily while repairs and inspections are carried out.
