LOS ANGELES - Shelley Fabares, the actor and singer known for roles in The Donna Reed Show and Coach and for the pop hit Johnny Angel, died Saturday in Los Angeles at age 82.

Her family confirmed the death in a statement to The Associated Press. No cause of death was provided. The family's statement remembered her personal warmth while asking the public to recognize both her career and her life with those close to her.

Fabares began acting as a child and became widely known as Mary Stone on The Donna Reed Show, where she was a regular from 1958 to 1963. During that period she recorded Johnny Angel, one of her Top 40 hits. Her screen work also included films with Elvis Presley, including Girl Happy, Spinout and Clambake.

Career across television and music

Later roles included Francine Webster on One Day at a Time and Christine Armstrong on Coach. AP also noted her work in Brian's Song. The range of those roles explains why audiences recognized her across several television eras.

Fabares was married to actor Mike Farrell from 1984. She also spoke publicly about her liver transplant and supported Alzheimer's awareness, a cause connected to her family.

What is confirmed

This article attributes the death confirmation and career details to the AP report and does not add an unsupported cause of death. Readers should treat posts claiming additional medical details as unverified unless a named family representative or reputable source confirms them.
