BELTON, Texas — The central Texas communities of Killeen and Cameron are deeply grieving the passing of 31-year-old Tavarshea Daveon Sims of Killeen and 39-year-old Shane Demeair Taylor of Cameron, who both lost their lives following a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 35. Texas Department of Public Safety Investigates I-35 Collision

According to official incident dispatches from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), state troopers responded around 8:04 p.m. to reports of a major collision on northbound Interstate 35 near mile marker 294 in Belton. Investigators established that a 2016 Nissan Altima and a 2026 Hyundai Elantra driven by Sims were traveling northbound when a collision occurred following a lane transition, causing the Hyundai to strike a guardrail. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, where Sims was pronounced deceased. Taylor, traveling as a rear passenger in the Hyundai, was transported by emergency services to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Two additional individuals involved received medical treatment at regional facilities as crash reconstruction specialists continue their review.
