At approximately 12:55 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle fire in a parking lot near Royal York Road and Edenbridge Drive at James Gardens Park in Etobicoke. Firefighters extinguished the vehicle blaze and discovered Kheyre deceased inside the burning car. His discovery occurred approximately 90 minutes after Toronto Fire Services located 32-year-old Marcus Charles deceased inside a burning rental vehicle in a hydro field near Steeles Avenue East and Reesor Road in Scarborough.
Official Status and Homicide Investigation
Lead investigators with the Toronto Police Service Homicide and Missing Persons Unit confirmed that post-mortem examinations revealed both Kheyre and Charles suffered fatal gunshot wounds prior to the fires being set. The deaths have been officially classified as Toronto’s 27th and 28th homicides of 2026.
Detective Sergeant Henri Marsman stated that while investigators believe both men were targeted, police have not officially confirmed a operational link between the two killings. Authorities confirmed that one vehicle was a rental car while the other had been reported stolen from within the Greater Toronto Area. Homicide detectives are appealing to anyone with dashcam footage or information near both scene locations around midnight on September 21 and 22 to contact the Toronto Police Service Homicide Unit or submit anonymous tips via Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
