Raised in South Richmond near Crescent Park, Dr. Carson was a standout student-athlete during his youth, playing for the Richmond Steelers youth football organization and graduating from El Cerrito High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, before completing his medical training at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Carson chose to return directly to his hometown, serving as an emergency room physician and stroke program director at Doctors Medical Center in San Pablo beginning in 1999, and later providing primary and urgent care at LifeLong Medical Care.
