BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky — A fatal shooting outside a commercial strip on Campbell Lane claimed the life of 17-year-old Bowling Green resident Michael Whitfield on Saturday afternoon, September 26, 2026.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., officers with the Bowling Green Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots in the 700 block of Campbell Lane near JC's Barber Shop. According to preliminary police investigations, a physical altercation began inside a nearby business and spilled over into the parking lot. During the conflict, a suspect drew a handgun and fired multiple rounds at Whitfield as he attempted to retreat.

Whitfield sustained critical gunshot wounds and was rushed by Warren County EMS to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Two parked vehicles in the lot were also struck by stray gunfire, though no additional injuries were reported.
