SAN BENITO, California — The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) family and regional public safety agencies are mourning the passing of retired Battalion Chief Tim Williams, who died peacefully surrounded by family, friends, and fellow firefighters following a courageous battle with occupational cancer.


Chief Williams dedicated over 30 years of public service to protecting the state of California. His career included eight impactful years serving within the San Benito-Monterey Unit, before later retiring from the Lassen-Modoc Unit. Throughout his three decades in wildland fire suppression and emergency incident management, Williams served as a steady leader, instructor, and mentor, helping train and guide generations of rising CAL FIRE officers and wildland firefighters across California.

Official Status and Fire Department Tributes
CAL FIRE leadership and regional fire departments across San Benito and Lassen counties formally announced Chief Williams's passing, extending honors for his decades of service.

In keeping with fire service tradition, members of CAL FIRE stood guard alongside his family during his final moments. Official details regarding line-of-duty death benefit designations, public procession routes, and formal uniformed funeral services will be announced by CAL FIRE representatives and his family once finalized.
