UW-Platteville Student Death: Campus Investigation Follows 2025 Tragedy

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville community has previously experienced a tragic incident involving the deaths of two students during the final week of the spring 2025 semester.

According to police reports and subsequent news coverage, Hallie Helms, 22, of Baraboo, and Kelsie Martin, 22, of Beloit, both died on May 19, 2025. The two students had graduated from UW-Platteville shortly before their deaths. Authorities described the incident as an apparent murder-suicide.

A police investigation into the incident later resulted in the release of a more than 500-page report. The report provided additional information about the circumstances leading up to the deaths and the investigation conducted by authorities.

The case received renewed attention in August 2025 after investigators’ records were reported publicly. Those reports detailed the police response and evidence gathered during the investigation.

At the time of this report, I did not find a reliable official source confirming a new UW-Platteville student suicide in September 2026. Because of the sensitivity of suicide-related reporting and the absence of current confirmation, the earlier 2025 case should not be presented as a new 2026 death.
