Michelle Richter Obituary, Regina SK Death: Regina, Saskatchewan Woman Dies After Breast Cancer Battle

The Regina community is mourning the death of Michelle Lee Richter, a respected educator and artist whose work touched many students, families, friends, and community members.

Richter was born in Regina on September 17, 1975, and died peacefully on September 18, 2026, according to her published obituary. She was 51. Her family said she was surrounded by loved ones at the time of her death.

Michelle was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in January 2023. Her treatment included chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiation, and other medical treatments. Her cancer later became metastatic and spread to her liver.

Throughout her illness, Michelle continued to focus on her family, creative work, and the people around her. A profile from Ovarian Cancer Canada, where she was featured in connection with a women’s health retreat, described her as an arts educator, mother, sister, and friend.

Michelle dedicated more than 20 years to teaching with Regina Catholic Schools. After graduating from the University of Regina’s Arts Education program, she became known for bringing creativity and the arts into her teaching. Her obituary describes her classrooms as inclusive environments where students felt valued and encouraged to express themselves.

Beyond teaching, Michelle was a passionate photographer. She photographed babies, families, graduations, engagements, weddings, and other important moments. Her family described her as someone who saw meaning and creativity in everyday life.

Family was central to Michelle’s life. She is survived by her children, Noah Richter and Sophia Richter-Flengeris, and her partner, Jon Bonar. She is also survived by her parents, Deborah Richter and Larry Richter, her siblings Scott, Tara, and Adam, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, colleagues, and former students.

Her family described her as adventurous and curious, with a love for travel, art, dance, photography, and new experiences. She visited destinations including Vancouver Island, Hawaii, Chicago, and Mexico City.

A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Regina. A reception will follow, with a private family burial afterward. A livestream is also planned for those unable to attend in person.

In memory of Michelle, the family has suggested donations to organizations supporting children in the arts, including FadaDance and Creative Kids. Donations toward the City of Regina Legacy Tree Program are also suggested.

Michelle Richter’s life is being remembered through the students she taught, the families she photographed, the art she encouraged, and the relationships she built throughout Regina.
