Derrick L. Stewart Obituary, Fort Dodge Iowa Death: 27-Year-Old Dies After Shooting

Derrick L. Stewart, 27, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away on September 26, 2026, following a shooting outside the 4th Street Depot, a bar and grill in the 300 block of South Fourth Street. His death has brought sadness to his family, friends, and members of the Fort Dodge community.


According to police reports, officers responded to the scene shortly after midnight on Saturday following an altercation. Stewart suffered multiple gunshot wounds and later died from his injuries. Two other men were also injured in the incident. A 21-year-old victim was hospitalized in stable condition, while a 29-year-old victim received treatment and was released.

Authorities identified 20-year-old Jamarcus Gully as the suspect. He faces charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder of a peace officer, and two counts of attempted murder. Police reported that an officer who responded to the scene discharged a firearm during the incident. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the officer-involved shooting, while the criminal charges remain subject to court proceedings.

Stewart's passing has left loved ones and members of the community mourning his loss. At 27, his life ended unexpectedly, leaving family and friends to remember the time they shared with him.

According to his obituary published by Historic Bruce Funeral Home, private family services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions are directed to his family.
