SOUTHFIELD, Michigan — A late-night altercation in a restaurant parking lot escalated into fatal gunfire, leaving a 58-year-old woman dead and two bystanders hospitalized on Friday night, September 4, 2026. As reported by FOX 2 Detroit, Southfield Police Department officers responded to the 26000 block of Evergreen Road near 10 Mile Road at approximately 11:25 p.m. following reports of multiple gunshots outside a local TGI Fridays establishment.
Verbal Altercation Escalates to Fatal Gunfire
According to preliminary findings released by Southfield police detectives, a large public gathering involving dozens of motor vehicles and motorcycles was taking place in the commercial parking lot when a verbal dispute broke out between the 58-year-old victim, an Inkster resident, and a 35-year-old male resident of Southfield. Investigators established that both individuals were licensed Concealed Pistol License (CPL) holders and both drew firearms during the argument. The 58-year-old woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local trauma center, where attending medical personnel pronounced her deceased.
Bystander Injuries and Suspect Custody
Two innocent bystanders standing nearby were struck during the exchange of gunfire. A 54-year-old man from Detroit suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition. A 42-year-old woman visiting from Evans, Georgia, sustained gunshot wounds to her shoulder and arm; she was driven to an emergency department by acquaintances and is expected to recover.
Southfield patrol officers arrested the 35-year-old male suspect at the scene shortly after the shooting.
