BARBERTON, Ohio — Authorities are investigating a tragic workplace accident after a 34-year-old hospital employee was fatally struck by a vehicle outside Summa Health System's Barberton Campus on Friday afternoon, September 4, 2026. As reported by WKYC 3News, the incident occurred in the facility's service bay area as the healthcare worker was leaving her shift.

Accident Details and Immediate Emergency Response According to statements released by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office and local law enforcement, the employee was walking near the hospital's loading dock at approximately 3:05 p.m. when she was struck by a backing truck. Emergency medical personnel immediately rushed the victim into the hospital's adjacent emergency department for trauma resuscitation efforts. Despite intensive medical intervention, attending physicians pronounced her deceased at 3:57 p.m. due to catastrophic blunt force injuries.

Joint Agency Investigation Underway Detectives with the Barberton Police Department and investigators from the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office arrived on scene to document the loading bay area, interview witnesses, and review security camera footage. The driver involved remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the active inquiry.
