BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An officer-involved shooting on Thursday afternoon left one person dead following a foot chase that led from a Southside McDonald's location into a parking deck at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham hospital. Birmingham Police Department officers initially encountered the individual at or near the fast-food restaurant before the suspect fled on foot toward the medical facility campus.
Incident Ends in Hospital Parking Garage Structure
According to preliminary updates from local officials and eyewitnesses, responding officers pursued the individual on foot into the parking structure associated with UAB St. Vincent’s. During the confrontation inside the parking deck, shots were fired, resulting in the suspect receiving fatal injuries. Emergency medical care was rendered at the scene, but the individual was pronounced deceased. No officers or hospital visitors were reported injured during the confrontation.
