Operations Recover Body of Daniel Dees Following Fatal Mississippi River Boating Accident

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Arkansas — Law enforcement search and rescue units recovered the body of Daniel Dees on Thursday morning following a fatal boating accident on the Mississippi River near Sans Souci Landing. Dees had been missing since Sunday evening when the vessel he was aboard capsized in the river. Deputies with the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department located and recovered his body approximately five miles south of Sans Souci Landing, where river currents had carried him downstream into an eddy off the main channel.

The capsizing incident also claimed the life of 59-year-old Robert Wayne Harkens of Osceola, Arkansas. A third passenger, 26-year-old Destiny Woods of Burdette, survived after escaping the water and being rescued by employees of TMS.

The multi-day search and recovery mission required extensive coordination across state lines and federal jurisdictions. Participating agencies included the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department, Blytheville Rescue Squad, U.S. Coast Guard, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Tennessee Game and Fish Commission, and Tipton County Fire and Rescue.
