MORGAN CITY, La. — Longtime Morgan City resident, retired pediatric dentist, and military veteran Dr. Oliver “Conrad” Poe passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Jennings, Louisiana, on July 26, 1938, to Oliver Henry Poe and Beryl Chaisson Poe, he earned his doctorate in dentistry from Loyola University New Orleans and completed a specialty in pediatric dentistry at the University of Oregon. Dr. Poe operated a private pediatric dentistry practice in Morgan City for decades while also teaching part-time at the LSU School of Dentistry and serving at the Peltier-Lawless Developmental Center. Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Poe served a combined 30 years in the United States Navy active and reserve forces, achieving the rank of Captain, and an additional nine years in the Louisiana National Guard, retiring as a Colonel. Medical Anatomical Donation and Final DirectivesIn accordance with Dr. Poe’s personal wishes and lifelong commitment to public service, his body was donated to the LSU School of Medicine to advance medical research and education. Formal immediate funeral services were omitted at his request to accommodate the scientific donation process. In lieu of traditional floral arrangements, his family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Catholic Charities Relief Services of Houma-Thibodaux or local food banks assisting families in need.
