Martinez Resident Samuel May Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Old Evans Road

MARTINEZ, Georgia — A fatal pedestrian collision claimed the life of 40-year-old Samuel May of Martinez, Georgia, early Saturday morning. Deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical services responded to the scene on Old Evans Road near Briarwood Drive at approximately 12:33 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, May was walking westbound along Old Evans Road alongside a friend when he was struck by the front of a westbound vehicle. Emergency medical personnel provided immediate life-saving measures, but May succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Columbia County Coroner Terry Norman officially identified May as the victim and confirmed next-of-kin notifications were completed. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 20-year-old Tyrese Perkins of Augusta, remained at the scene and stated to deputies that he did not see the pedestrian in the roadway prior to impact.
