MANASSAS, Virginia. The community is mourning Richard Lamot and Christopher Serrano following a fatal workplace shooting at a United Rentals facility in Manassas, Virginia, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
According to police, the shooting occurred at approximately 7 a.m. at the company’s facility on Wellington Road. Three employees were shot during an altercation. Lamot, 48, and Serrano, 33, later died, while the third employee was reported to be in stable condition.
Police identified the suspected shooter as Marvin Grant, 37, an employee at the facility. Authorities said he left the scene after the shooting and was later located along Interstate 81 in Augusta County. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a subsequent standoff with Virginia State Police.
Richard Lamot was remembered by Manassas Police Chief Douglas Keen, who had coached youth football alongside him. Keen described Lamot as a devoted family man who cared deeply about his children.
Christopher Serrano was also a devoted family man. His partner, Mayra Maturano, described him as a loving father and partner. Serrano leaves behind two children, a son and a young daughter. His family is now facing life without him as loved ones remember the role he played in their lives.
The tragedy has affected colleagues, relatives and members of the Manassas community. United Rentals stated it was working with law enforcement and providing support to affected employees.
Investigators have not established a motive for the shooting. Police are continuing to examine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
As tributes emerge, Lamot and Serrano are being remembered for their commitment to their families and the relationships they built with those around them.
