I-80 Mercer County Crash: 66-Year-Old Truck Driver Dies After Two Tractor-Trailers Collide in Finley Township

A fatal collision involving two tractor-trailers on Interstate 80 in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, has left a truck driver dead.

The crash occurred between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, on westbound I-80 near mile marker 19 and the Interstate 79 interchange in Finley Township.

According to reports citing Pennsylvania State Police, a semi-truck merged into the right lane in front of a second tractor-trailer. The second truck struck the other vehicle, causing its driver to lose control, leave the roadway, and overturn near an embankment.

The driver of the overturned truck was identified as Garry Edward Jones, 66, of New Springfield, Ohio. Mercer County Coroner John Libonati confirmed that Jones died at the scene. The other truck driver was reported to be uninjured.

The crash prompted a temporary closure of westbound I-80 near the I-79 interchange. PennDOT later confirmed that the affected lanes had reopened.

Pennsylvania State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. The coroner classified Jones’s death as a homicide, according to local news reports. This classification does not, by itself, establish criminal responsibility.

Further information about potential criminal proceedings had not been reported as of October 1, 2026.
