The New Lenox, Illinois, community is mourning the loss of Brennen Chase Saele, a beloved 17-year-old student whose warmth, generosity, and welcoming personality left a lasting impression on those around him.

Brennen passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Born on December 20, 2008, he was the cherished son of Michael and Genesis Saele and the loving brother of Landen Saele. His passing has brought profound sadness to his family, friends, classmates, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. 
A Life Defined by Kindness and Inclusion
Brennen was a senior at Lincoln-Way Central High School, where he participated in the Best Buddies Program as a Peer Buddy. Through his involvement, he demonstrated the importance of friendship, inclusion, and making others feel valued.
His family remembered him as someone who made people feel welcome and loved. His bright smile, cheerful personality, and infectious laughter became defining parts of his character. He treasured his relationships with family and friends and made a conscious effort to ensure others felt included.
Beyond school, Brennen worked at local establishments, including Gatto's and Hog Wild. His colleagues remembered him for his enthusiasm, strong work ethic, and positive presence.
Remembering His Dreams and Aspirations
Despite living with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a rare genetic condition, Brennen remained determined to enjoy life and pursue his ambitions.
He had received college acceptances from several universities and hoped to attend Florida Atlantic University to study nursing. His plans reflected his desire to build a future around helping others.
His unexpected passing has left his loved ones grieving the future he had been preparing to embrace. 
A Community United in His Memory
Since the news of Brennen's passing, New Lenox residents, schoolmates, and local businesses have rallied around the Saele family. Red ribbons have appeared throughout the community, while classmates and friends have organized tributes celebrating the things he loved.
The Lincoln-Way Central community has also planned activities and memorial gestures to honor his life. These expressions of support reflect the meaningful connections Brennen formed during his 17 years.
His family has invited those wishing to honor his memory to consider donations to The Marfan Foundation, which supports people affected by genetic conditions, or the Best Buddies Program at Lincoln-Way Central High School. 
Funeral Arrangements
According to the family's published obituary, visitation is scheduled for Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel in New Lenox, Illinois.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in New Lenox. 
A Legacy of Compassion
Brennen Saele will be remembered for his kind heart, bright smile, dedication to his loved ones, and ability to make people feel included. Although his life ended at 17, the memories he created and the friendships he nurtured remain a source of comfort to those mourning his loss.
