JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The community of Howard and residents across Knox County are deeply grieving the passing of 52-year-old Eric G. Carpenter, who lost his life in a utility task vehicle (UTV) crash on Harrisburg Road. News of his sudden and unexpected death has left family members, lifelong friends, and local neighbors facing a profound loss.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Investigates Early-Morning UTV Incident
According to official incident reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Mount Gilead Post, emergency responders were dispatched at approximately 4:44 a.m. after the Knox County 911 Dispatch Center received a call from a passing motorist. Investigators determined that Carpenter was operating a southbound 2024 Polaris RZR near Chapel Road when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a fence, and overturned on its side. Carpenter was ejected from the vehicle during the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Assisting OSHP troopers at the crash site were the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Eastern Knox County Joint Fire District, the Mount Vernon Association of Police Chaplains, and Danville Tire & Alignment. State troopers continue to investigate the contributing factors surrounding the incident.
