Frankfort Police Launch Homicide Probe Following Death of 2-Year-Old

FRANKFORT, Illinois — Detectives with the Frankfort Police Department and the Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force have initiated a domestic homicide investigation following the death of a 2-year-old child on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. As reported by ABC7 Chicago, emergency responders were called to a residence on the 22700-block of Brook Stone Court around 4:04 p.m. regarding an unresponsive toddler.

Emergency Response and Medical Evaluation

According to statements released by the Frankfort Police Department, responding officers and a 17-year-old bystander performed emergency CPR on the toddler before paramedics transported the child to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where he was pronounced deceased. While searching the residence, officers located the child's mother suffering from self-inflicted injuries. Emergency personnel transported her to a regional hospital for treatment.

Coroner and Task Force Investigation

Representatives from the Will County Coroner’s Office confirmed that an initial autopsy was conducted on Wednesday, September 2, establishing the preliminary manner of death as an apparent homicide.
